One reporter acknowledges that rarely happened that, asking questions about future projects, his interlocutor to talk about development plans spanning more than ten years. One of the places where he had been responded so strongly is Haller Farm, the only dairy farm in Romania which has robotic technology. As far it concerns the answer to the above question, this is the sign of a business in which nothing is left to chance, everything is planned for maximum performance. Because at Haller Farm, "everything is done at its best," as we were told. At the forefront of Romanian livestock Owned by Mr. Zoltan Haller, the dairy farm that bears his name and which is located in Harman, Brasov County was recently established, in 2009. However, not only it is among the Romanian elite livestock, but even in its top, thanks to Lely Astronaut robot. But until the details of the robot, we still have to talk. The one that was our guide in the visit we made to Haller Farm was Mr. Karoly Ambrus, Director of Lely Center and Central Cereals. We learned from him that the investment was 100% private, plus European funds accessed and some bank loans. Started with a total of 30 cows, the farm currently has 500 heads, of which about 300 are milking cows, the number being almost exclusively from “Baltata Romaneasca” breed. To the heritage should be also added the 420 hectares worked to ensure feed for the animals (of which 100 are leased), and also cutting edge agricultural machinery. This because, as Mr Karoly Ambrus told us, Haller Farm works after an integrated system. Of course, at the heart of all the activity is the cattle. It all started with the selection of race, being preferred “Baltata Romaneasca” whichis perfectly adapted to the conditions in Transylvania. The exploitation of this race brings a milk production of 23-25 l per day. We can figure out about the importance of race if we refer to reproduction number of animals and herds refreshing, following the correct application of insemination resulting in a success rate of over 80%, but not only that. The accuracy of insemination, of the periods carefully determined lead to fair and efficient evaluation of lactation periods. To this success contributes the quality of semen material used, which comes from bulls of maximum performance, contacting also specialists from Semtest. And, as further proof of the quality of the segment activity stands the fact that Haller Farm sells heifers, gestant heifers and milking cows. Lely Astronaut, first milking robot in Romania "We must recognize that if things are going very well here, this is due to the fact that Mr. Haller is particularly open to everything new in technology," said Karoly Ambrus. And certainly, acquisition, first for Romania, of the first milking robot, is also thanks to Mr. Zoltan Haller. The acquisition was not exactly easy. Of course, the investment was serious, such equipment costing 120,000 euros. But, before signing the contract, the Dutch company Lely representatives carefully reviewed both Harman farm and the whole milk production sector from Romania. What this robot mean? Ultimately, substantially increased profit generated by maximum efficiency within the entire activity. The benefits are multiple. First, it eliminates any human error. Everything is controlled by a central unit that processes complex data, starting with the health status of the animal, its nutritional needs, and ending with the milking process which itself represents a peak of the livestock technology: udder hygiene is done perfectly, milk quality analysis is performed instantly, the milk with problems is removed from circulation; milking is carried out "to the last drop." The data is transmitted at all times by the animal to the central unit by a transponder attached to each animal. Needless to mention that milk is 100% according to European Union standards, the entire production being contracted by Covalact. Besides the strict supervision of the health status of the herd, to the milk quality contribute the other factors: the cattle are kept in semi-free stabulation. Each cow comes by itself for milking, daily, for 3, 4 or five times. Animal welfare is fully realized, the cattle are not stressed, enjoying the most the massage brushes, and also the nutritional supplements that are given at the time of milking, which make them quiet and happy. We asked in more detail on the operation of Lely Astronaut milking robot and we found out that the energy consumption was reduced by 60%, compared to what was used in the former milking room. Maintenance is easy as possible, requiring minimal effort: replacing filters, monthly maintenance, periodic review, etc.. Noteworthy is that the service is performed computerized, the robot benefiting from a autodetection system of the operating parameters. In addition, Lely Astronaut robot was provided with Lely T4C management software, software that monitors almost all activity on the farm. On this basis, basic economic calculation has been improved, which allowed a more optimal feed rationing, contributing to good cattle nutrition by knowing the data regarding rumination, the number of rumination, etc. Together, these improvements have resulted in feed production area efficiency or nutritional supplements purchase efficiency. Not surprising that from my own experience, Haller Farm became a franchise for providing Lely Astronaut robots, with clear signs of interest in this regard. Moreover, at the moment of robot inauguration attended over 250 farmers across the country, the interest still remaining constant. Mr Ambrus is definitely: "Some people think it is difficult to switch from bucket milking to robot milking, because the technological leap is too big. But now is the time for this jump and who will have the courage, will have a solid and profitable long term business. In 80% of dairy farms in France, established after 2000, there are used milking robots. If they can and we could, why other Romanian farmers could not? "His arguments are undeniable. A business thought for the future Undeniable is also the overall performance of Haller Farm: feed is produced on their own land. To these there are applied the most advanced technologies, using the most advanced machinery and equipment. Whether we are talking about tillage, crop emerging, silage or feed preparation, everything has the sign of performance and efficiency. The employees dismissed following Lely Astronaut robot implementation into the farm were not fired, but they were placed in other places, being all multi-skilled, so that when necessary to be able to carry out any activity directly productive. We asked Mr. Karoly Ambrus which are the future projects. As stated in the introduction of the article, he told us about a development program spread over about 10 years which includes storage capacity increase from 5,000 to 20,000 tons, in order to provide feed to other farmers, acquisition of robots to be placed on cattle feeding line, total elimination of chemical fertilizers, purchase of equipment for manure spreading and the establishment of a mixed feed factory. We are sure that all this will be achieved. The seriousness of those from Haller Farm fully convinced us, as we were convinced by our interlocutor who told us that sees the future with confidence: "We have no fear for the coming period. Our farm will cope successfully with the competition. Milk from Haller farm will be always the best quality milk, being supplied at the most correct price. And, our integrated organization type will further enhance our profitability." Right. Since now, the farm from Harman wins already, from several sources: milk, heifers, pregnant heifers, milking cows. And, at the right time they will have also earnings from feed seeling or Lely Astronaut robots delivering, and then you have believed Mr.’s Karoly Ambruș words: “At Haller Farm, everything is thought, everything is planned and everything is done at its best!”
