AFIR Transfers Over €100 Million in New Payment Tranche to Farmers

The Agency for Financing Rural Investments (AFIR) has transferred a new tranche of payments amounting to more than €100 million (€100,198,185) to farmers across Romania. These payments are intended to compensate income losses and cover additional costs incurred by farmers who voluntarily commit to continue their agricultural activities under environmental and climate commitments as well as animal welfare measures.

Out of the total amount disbursed by AFIR:

  • €85,156,522 represents non-reimbursable funds from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD),
  • while €15,041,663 is covered by the National Budget.

These funds represent compensatory payments for beneficiaries of interventions under the Strategic Plan 2023–2027, specifically targeting:

  • Agri-environment and climate commitments on permanent grasslands (DR-01)
  • Organic farming – conversion and maintenance of certification (DR-04 and DR-05)
  • Animal welfare (DR-06)
  • Areas affected by significant natural constraints and mountainous regions (DR-10 and DR-09)
