The National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) has announced the results of a large-scale inspection campaign carried out nationwide between May 4–8, 2026, targeting the safety of marketed products and compliance with the legal conditions for providing services to consumers. The actions included inspections across several fields of activity, including toy retail and automotive services.
According to data published by the institution, more than 1,300 economic operators were inspected in order to assess compliance with consumer protection legislation. Following the inspections, ANPC commissioners issued 826 contraventional fines, with the total value of sanctions exceeding 3.4 million lei. In addition, 619 warnings were issued.
The total value of the products inspected during the controls exceeded 21 million lei. At the same time, the authority imposed additional measures restricting commercial activity for products and services deemed non-compliant. Thus, products worth more than 140,000 lei were permanently withdrawn from sale, while products exceeding 270,000 lei in value were temporarily suspended from commercialization until the identified deficiencies are remedied.
ANPC also announced the temporary suspension of service provision for 17 economic operators until the issues identified during the inspections are resolved.
Among the main irregularities identified were the provision of services in unauthorized premises or in locations that did not comply with legal operating conditions, improper storage of tires, spare parts, and tools, as well as the absence of warranties for labor and replaced parts. Inspectors also identified incomplete contracts, commercial practices considered misleading in relation to consumers, the absence of cost estimates for services provided, and incomplete documentation regarding performed works and related costs.
The campaign is part of the series of thematic actions periodically carried out by ANPC to verify compliance with consumer rights and the legal obligations assumed by economic operators in relation to the market and end consumers.
