Considering Current Epidemiological Challenges, ANSVSA Holds Key Meetings

Given the current epidemiological challenges and the need to ensure food safety, the leadership of ANSVSA has convened a series of important meetings at the institution’s headquarters.

Romania’s Active Contribution at the European Level

The President of ANSVSA, Alexandru Bociu, participated in the Chief Veterinary Officers (CVO) meeting of the European Union, held in Brussels. Through this participation, Romania strengthens its active contribution to European policies regarding animal health, disease prevention, and food safety.

Following this international meeting, the ANSVSA President also convened additional meetings to discuss significant measures for managing animal health issues and food safety at the national level.

Key Discussions at ANSVSA Meetings

During today’s meetings at ANSVSA, essential topics related to animal health and food safety were discussed, including:

  1. The Evolution of Small Ruminant Plague in Romania – A meeting with animal health experts was held to analyze the measures taken and the development of this disease across the country.
  2. The Evolution of African Swine Fever – Presentation of the measures adopted to combat the disease and protect Romania’s pig farming industry. The meeting included representatives from the Romanian Pork Producers Association (APCPR) and the Association of Swine Veterinary Doctors (AMVS).
  3. Food Waste Reduction – In collaboration with the Association of Large Retail Chains in Romania (AMRCR), a working group was established to develop a Guide on Food Donation, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 852/2004 on food hygiene. The aim of this guide is to reduce food waste and promote responsible resource use.
  4. Suspicions of Bluetongue and Maedi-Visna – A meeting with animal health experts was organized to analyze suspicions of Bluetongue and Maedi-Visna infections, two diseases that could impact animal health and Romania’s agricultural sector.

These meetings underscore ANSVSA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring food safety and animal health through proactive measures and close collaboration with relevant authorities and associations.

A Commitment to Continuous Dialogue

The ANSVSA team maintains an ongoing dialogue with livestock farmers, transporters, exporters, and all stakeholders in the food sector to implement effective measures that protect public health and animal welfare.
