Carrefour announces the completion of the transaction with the Louis Delhaize Group and the acquisition of all the activities of the Cora brand in Romania. In addition to the 10 hypermarkets and 9 convenience stores, Carrefour also becomes the employer of over 2,000 workers who have been involved in Cora's operations in Romania.
In the upcoming period, the newly acquired Cora hypermarkets and convenience stores will undergo a gradual rebranding process, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Carrefour is committed to providing customers with the best experience in its hypermarkets and stores. Therefore, the hypermarkets will remain open as much as possible during the process, while the convenience stores will be briefly closed to be rapidly adapted to the Carrefour Express format.
The transformation process for Cora hypermarkets will commence at the end of 2023 when the "Cora becomes Carrefour" campaign will be launched to assist consumers and introduce them to the new benefits.
The current experience of Cora customers will gradually evolve into the Carrefour universe. They will get to know established products and suppliers, local products, Carrefour's commercial expertise, and quality standards. They will also continue to enjoy the efficient practices retained by the new team of employees.
The strategy will be implemented gradually, ensuring the seamless integration of both commercial universes so that existing and future customers can benefit from Carrefour's promotional campaigns and product selection as soon as possible. The same approach will be applied in dealings with suppliers and other partners, encouraging them to adhere to Carrefour's procedures and standards as soon as possible.
The transaction, announced in April of this year, was approved by the Competition Council at the end of October 2023.
"We are preparing to close 2023 with an important acquisition for our company and to start the new year with a well-thought-out plan to integrate all Cora stores. Our team will grow with over 2,000 new colleagues, and in the coming period, we will focus on integrating the new members into our universe," said Julien Munch, CEO of Carrefour Romania.
The transaction expands Carrefour's portfolio to over 430 stores in the country, strengthening the company's business in Romania and its position as a top employer in the retail sector.
