The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (A.N.S.V.S.A.) conducted an action to verify the origin and traceability of fish and fishery products.

The checks took place in 22 counties (Alba, Bacău, Bihor, Bucharest, Brăila, Buzău, Călărași, Cluj, Constanța, Galați, Hunedoara, Ialomița, Iași, Ilfov, Neamț, Prahova, Suceava, Timiș, Tulcea, Vaslui, Vâlcea, and Vrancea), where 57 operators were inspected.

Following the inspections, veterinary sanitary inspectors and food safety inspectors found deviations from legislation regarding: product labeling, compliance with hygiene standards for the maintenance of spaces, containers, packaging, and working equipment, and compliance with product expiration dates.

During these inspections, 44 samples were collected for laboratory examinations to determine heavy metals (lead, cadmium) and freshness levels.

For the non-compliances found at the inspected units in the counties of Bacău, Brăila, Cluj, Galați, Iași, Suceava, Vaslui, Vâlcea, and Vrancea, 13 administrative fines totaling 149,400 lei were imposed.

Additionally, an official quantity of 464 kg of fish was retained and sent for neutralization (due to lack of identification elements), and for the quantity of 1,165 kg of fish, seizure was ordered pending the release of the analysis bulletin.
