The specialized publication Pig333 has conducted an analysis showing how pork production (in million tons) has evolved over the past 25 years, as well as country rankings and how they have changed.

According to the analysis, there was sustained growth in China until the emergence of African Swine Fever in 2018 and how, after a spectacular decline, pork production has recovered.

Regarding the ranking of the top pork-producing countries, it is observed that there has been no movement for the top four positions in the last 25 years if we consider the EU as a whole. We see how Russia and Vietnam have moved up positions against Canada.

This changes when we break down the EU into countries, where Spain made a breakthrough in 2020, becoming the main producer in the EU, surpassing Germany, which lost 20 years of hegemony, becoming the third-largest producer globally after China and the United States until last year when it was surpassed by Brazil.

Since the values for China distort the chart and do not allow us to appreciate the evolution in other countries.

The analysis indicates the same chart but without China and with the EU represented by the main producers (Spain, Germany, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, and Belgium), which represent approximately 86% of the total EU production.

You can see the ranking in the opening image of this news.
