The International Labor Day holds the record for the most orders of "mici" (traditional Romanian dish similar to kebabs) in a year. According to data from the Tazz app, Romanians order 7 times more "mici" than on a typical day.

How much do Romanians allocate for the craving for "mici"

The average price for a serving of 3 "mici" is 25 lei, while the average receipt registered on May 1st on Tazz for an order of "mici" is valued at 86 lei. On the opposite end, the most expensive order of "mici" placed on May 1st had a value of 188 lei for a platter of 20 "mici."

"Mici" for breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Romanians start May 1st strongly, with 24% of total orders being recorded between 9:00 and 11:00. However, the peak consumption moments are led by the interval between 12:00 and 15:00, when 49% of "mici" orders are recorded. "Mici" are also the preferred choice for dinner, with 20% of total orders being recorded between 16:00 and 19:00.

Although May 1st is the golden day for "mici" orders, Romanians choose this dish for lunch or dinner throughout the year: on an average day, 350 "mici" are ordered.

The biggest craving

The trend is supported by the study "Romanians' Cravings" developed by Tazz and Cult Research, which identified "mici" as the biggest craving for Romanians on May 1st. 47% of respondents associate International Labor Day with the craving for "mici," and the data from the app supports this.

This year, Tazz offers users deals on "mici" both in the restaurant category and in the supermarket category, where they can find containers of "mici" starting at 14.99 lei. (Photo: Dreamstime)
