The Romanian government has announced through a press release that Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu held new consultations with representatives of the Association of major commercial networks in the food sector at Victoria Palace.
The discussions focused on establishing a functional mechanism agreed upon between the government and the private sector to reduce the prices of basic food products.
"I am pleased that the business community is open to agreeing, following our dialogue, on a viable, simple, and clear mechanism that, along with governmental measures, will lead to reducing inflation and increasing the purchasing power of Romanians.
Our governance is primarily for the people, and the firm commitment we have made is to reduce inflation to a single digit by the end of the year. I am confident that we can achieve this in partnership with the business community.
The reduction will apply to bread, milk, cheese, meat, eggs, flour, cornmeal, oil, vegetables, and fresh fruits," stated Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
The head of the Executive mentioned that investments will continue to be supported in the next budget adjustment. Additionally, economic support measures will continue to be implemented, as well as support solutions in the energy sector.
Representatives of the Association of major commercial networks in the food sector in Romania appreciated the openness to dialogue and expressed their provisional agreement with the establishment of such a mechanism.
The dialogue with representatives of the Association of major commercial networks in the food sector will continue to jointly establish the agreed-upon measures for reducing inflation and increasing purchasing power, as well as their implementation method.
