Retail Trade Turnover Volume in January 2025

In January 2025, the retail trade turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) decreased compared to December 2024 by 19.4% in gross series but increased by 0.1% in the seasonally and working-day adjusted series.

Compared to January 2024, the retail trade turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased in January 2025 both in gross series, by 4.1%, and in the seasonally and working-day adjusted series, by 3.2%.

January 2025 Compared to December 2024

In January 2025, compared to the previous month, the retail trade turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) in gross series decreased overall by 19.4%, due to declines in:

  • Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco (-21.3%),
  • Sales of non-food products (-20.5%),
  • Retail trade of automotive fuels in specialized stores (-12.0%).

In contrast, the seasonally and working-day adjusted retail trade turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased overall by 0.1% in January 2025 compared to the previous month. This increase was driven by:

  • Retail trade of automotive fuels in specialized stores (+0.5%),
  • Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco (+0.2%).

However, sales of non-food products declined by 0.7%.

January 2025 Compared to January 2024

In gross series, the retail trade turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased overall by 4.1% in January 2025 compared to January 2024, mainly due to increases in:

  • Retail trade of automotive fuels in specialized stores (+7.3%),
  • Sales of non-food products (+7.0%).

Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco, however, decreased by 0.9%.

In seasonally and working-day adjusted terms, the retail trade turnover volume (excluding trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased overall by 3.2% in January 2025 compared to January 2024. This growth was supported by:

  • Sales of non-food products (+5.8%),
  • Retail trade of automotive fuels in specialized stores (+1.2%).
