INS: Wholesale trade turnover in March 2023

According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), in March 2023, the turnover in wholesale trade (excluding trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased both in nominal terms compared to February 2023, with a gross series growth of 21.5% and an adjusted series considering working days and seasonality growth of 0.1%.

Compared to March 2022, the turnover in wholesale trade (excluding trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles) in March 2023 increased in nominal terms, with a gross series growth of 3.8% and an adjusted series considering working days and seasonality growth of 1.2%.

During the period January 1st to March 31st, 2023, the turnover in wholesale trade (excluding trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased in nominal terms compared to the same period in 2022, with a gross series growth of 6.9% and an adjusted series considering working days and seasonality growth of 9.2%.

March 2023 compared to February 2023:

The turnover in wholesale trade (excluding trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles) in March 2023, compared to the previous month, increased in nominal terms by 21.5% overall. This growth was driven by increased turnover in specialized wholesale trade of other products (+29.4%), wholesale trade of other machinery, equipment, and supplies (+28.4%), wholesale trade of agricultural raw materials and live animals (+24.4%), wholesale trade of food, beverages, and tobacco products (+23.8%), wholesale intermediary activities (+18.8%), non-specialized wholesale trade (+17.0%), wholesale trade of non-food consumer goods (+12.9%), and wholesale trade of computer and telecommunications equipment (+8.3%).

The adjusted series considering working days and seasonality showed a nominal increase of 0.1% in wholesale trade turnover in March 2023 compared to the previous month.

March 2023 compared to March 2022:

The turnover in wholesale trade (excluding trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles) in March 2023, compared to March 2022, increased in nominal terms by 3.8% overall. This growth was driven by increased turnover in wholesale intermediary activities (+15.6%), wholesale trade of other machinery, equipment, and supplies (+15.0%), wholesale trade of food, beverages, and tobacco products (+12.9%), wholesale trade of non-food consumer goods (+10.4%), wholesale trade of computer and telecommunications equipment (+7.4%), and non-specialized wholesale trade (+1.8%). There were declines in wholesale trade of agricultural raw materials and live animals (-7.8%) and specialized wholesale trade of other products (-4.7%).

The adjusted series considering working days and seasonality showed a nominal increase of 1.2% in wholesale trade turnover in March 2023 compared to March 2022.

January-March 2023 compared to January-March 2022:

The turnover in wholesale trade (excluding trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles) during the period January 1st to March 31st, 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, recorded an overall nominal increase of 6.9%. This growth was driven by increased wholesale intermediary activities (+26.3%), wholesale trade of computer and telecommunications equipment (+19.9%), wholesale trade of other machinery, equipment, and supplies (+17.5%), wholesale trade of food, beverages, and tobacco products (+12.0%), wholesale trade of non-food consumer goods (+10.6%), and non-specialized wholesale trade (+4.4%). There were declines in wholesale trade of agricultural raw materials and live animals (-3.0%) and specialized wholesale trade of other products (-1.6%).

The adjusted series considering working days and seasonality showed a nominal increase of 9.2% in wholesale trade turnover during the period January 1st to March 31st, 2023, compared to the same period in 2022.
