Changes in Livestock Weight and Milk Production in 2024

In 2024, compared to the previous year, the average live weight of slaughtered animals increased for poultry but decreased for cattle, pigs, and sheep and goats.

Milk production recorded a year-on-year increase, while wool and egg output declined.

In terms of the overall structure of meat production, the share of poultry meat increased by 3.0 percentage points in 2024 compared to 2023. Conversely, the shares of beef, pork, and sheep and goat meat decreased by 1.0 percentage point each.

Cow’s milk production (including milk for calf feeding) reached 39,723 thousand hectolitres in 2024, up by 1,157 thousand hectolitres (+3.0%) from the previous year. Increases were recorded in the following development regions: Centre (+16.6%), West (+4.5%), North-West (+2.4%), and South-Muntenia (+2.3%). Meanwhile, decreases were observed in South-East (-5.6%), South-West Oltenia (-3.2%), Bucharest-Ilfov (-3.1%), and North-East (-2.3%).
