Crop area in 2022, compared to 2021, decreased for cereals, oilseed crops, vegetables, potatoes, and legumes, while it increased for rapeseed.
Vegetable agricultural production decreased in 2022, compared to the previous year, for cereals, vegetables, oilseed crops, potatoes, and legumes.
Year 2022 compared to 2021:
In 2022, a decrease in both crop areas and yields was observed for the main crops.
Cereals:
The cultivated area for cereals decreased by 3.0%, and production decreased by 32.2% compared to the previous year, mainly due to lower yields per hectare (average production per hectare).
The cultivated area for maize accounted for 47.6% of the total cereal area in 2022, while wheat accounted for 41.3%.
Cereal production mainly decreased due to a 44.7% decline in maize production, which represents 43.5% of the total cereal production.
Legumes:
Production decreased by 29.9% compared to the previous year, mainly due to lower yields per hectare.
Oilseed crops:
Production decreased by 22.4%, and the cultivated area decreased by 1.6%. Decreases in production were recorded for soybeans (-30.5%), sunflower (-26.9%), and rapeseed (-11.1%).
Potatoes:
The cultivated area decreased by 10.7%, and production decreased by 15.1%.
Vegetables:
Production decreased by 34.4% due to a decrease in both cultivated area and yields per hectare.
Vineyards:
In 2022, grape production decreased by 19.5% due to lower yields per hectare (-18.0%) and a decrease in cultivated area by 1.8%, compared to the previous year.
Fruit-bearing orchards:
Fruit production from orchards decreased by 23.0% compared to the previous year, due to lower yields per hectare and a decrease in cultivated area.
Romania compared to some EU Member States in 2022:
For maize, Romania ranked first in cultivated area and second in production, after France.
For sunflower, Romania ranked first in both cultivated area and production.
For wheat, Romania ranked fifth in cultivated area, after France, Germany, Poland, and Spain, and fourth in production, after France, Germany, and Poland.
