Until October 20th, the inspectors from the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) will carry out an extensive action aimed at assessing the food safety and hygiene requirements of spaces, facilities, and equipment used for meal preparation and service within nurseries, kindergartens, regular schools, or those operating in after-school, semi-residential, and/or boarding school modes.

After receiving updated lists of nurseries, kindergartens, regular schools, or those operating in after-school, semi-residential, and/or boarding school modes from the representatives of the county School Inspectorates, ANSVSA inspection teams will initiate verifications regarding:

  1. Requirements related to the construction and equipping of food blocks/canteens.
  2. Hygiene and maintenance conditions of food processing and storage spaces, protective equipment, as well as working equipment in food blocks/canteens.
  3. The list of accepted food suppliers (raw materials intended for preparing meals served to preschoolers and/or students).
  4. Methods of storing raw materials and food/meals prepared for serving to preschoolers and/or students, especially for products that require specific temperature conditions.
  5. Periodic cleaning and disinfection of areas where food products have been handled and prepared.
  6. Health and hygiene conditions of personnel handling food (these individuals must adhere to a high level of personal hygiene, wear appropriate protective equipment, and possess health documents completed and approved by a doctor, in accordance with legislation).
  7. Implementation of protective measures against unwanted animals (dogs, cats, etc.) and pests (rodents, insects, birds), as well as the effectiveness of implemented DDD (disinfection, disinsection, and deratization) programs.
  8. Handling and disposal of by-products not intended for human consumption and non-food waste, ensuring they do not pose a source of contamination and are transported safely for destruction in specialized units.

In cases where, as a result of inspections, food products prepared without adherence to hygiene conditions or foods that do not meet the quality and safety parameters set by current legislation are identified, inspectors will urgently order their withdrawal from consumption and the application of contraventional sanctions in accordance with the law.

ANSVSA inspectors will proceed with the temporary suspension or prohibition of the food block/canteen activities located within nurseries, kindergartens, regular schools, or those operating in after-school, semi-residential, and/or boarding school modes if it is found that they do not comply with hygiene conditions or have not remedied deficiencies identified during previous inspections.
