Romania Extends Cap on Basic Food Price Markups Until September 30, 2025
According to a new draft ordinance published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR), the cap on commercial markups for basic food products will be extended by another three months, until September 30, 2025.

The ordinance states:
“This ordinance regulates the extension of deadlines as follows: the enforcement period of Government Emergency Ordinance No. 67/2023, with its subsequent amendments and completions, is extended for an additional period of three months, until September 30, 2025, inclusive, with the aim of combating excessive price increases for certain agricultural and food products and maintaining the population’s purchasing power for essential goods.”

“The adoption of the proposed measures will lead to an increase in the purchasing power of the population with respect to basic agricultural and food products, helping to balance household incomes and expenses. This will contribute to improving living standards and preventing depopulation in rural areas.”
