Romanian Minister of Agriculture Visits Satu Mare to Support Livestock and Agri-Food Investments

On August 6, 2025, the Romanian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Florin-Ionuț Barbu, paid an official visit to Satu Mare County to assess livestock development projects and engage in dialogue with local authorities and farmers about future priorities in the agri-food sector.

One of the key sites visited was the construction site of a pig reproduction farm in Căuaș commune, developed by the Codreană Transilvania Agricultural Cooperative. The investment, estimated at approximately €3 million, aims for an annual production capacity of over 41,000 piglets. The minister emphasized the importance of such projects in reducing import dependency and strengthening domestic production capacity.

Other stops on the agenda included a 200-head cattle fattening farm in Tășnad and a hazelnut processing unit operated by Holiv Ecoplant in Săuca. These initiatives were praised for their production–processing integration models and long-term agricultural sustainability.

During a working meeting held at the Satu Mare Prefecture, Minister Barbu announced that the Ministry of Agriculture will allocate €4 billion to the development of the livestock sector for the 2028–2034 period. The strategy will focus on supporting integrated farms, digitalizing agricultural processes, and investing in processing facilities.

In addition, Florin Barbu reiterated the importance of maintaining the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) as a separate budget line from cohesion funds in future EU-level negotiations, calling on farmers to support this position.

The visit concluded at Agro-PIG SRL farm in Medieșu Aurit, a facility specializing in biosecurity and prevention of transmissible animal diseases. The minister conveyed a strong message of support for local farmers, pledging to reduce bureaucracy and speed up access to funding.
