The Meat.Milk. edition dedicated to Mrs. Dana Tănase brought to the forefront one of the few voices that truly knows Romania’s meat industry from every angle: production, official control, regulation, and sectoral representation.

Her career path begins in swine production, continues through research and food control, moves on to the former General Sanitary-Veterinary Directorate and ANSVSA, and, starting in 2016, crosses “to the other side of the barricade” into the direct representation of processors through ARC, Romalimenta, and CLITRAVI.

In terms of public policy, her vice-president mandates within Romalimenta and CLITRAVI focus on strengthening the position of the Romanian industry in dialogue with European institutions, active participation in working groups in Brussels and at national level, and updating the domestic regulatory framework.

The early years in the Giurgiu pig complex, the daily commute starting at 4:30 a.m., direct contact with classical swine fever, followed by years of work on European legislation, audit missions, and moments of maximum pressure at the European Commission shaped a rare profile: a professional who understands the industry both from inside production units and from negotiation rooms.

The European episode of “mislabelled meats” was one of the most difficult moments in Mrs. Tănase’s career. Before the European Commission, she defended Romania’s position in a tense context, demonstrating through documentation, traceability, and technical analysis that the Romanian plant involved was not responsible for the incorrect labelling. It was an exercise in rigor and professional resilience, at a time when the entire industry depended on the clarity of the presentation and the ability to defend a national control system before European institutions.

Today, the experience gained in these moments — from fieldwork to Brussels — makes Mrs. Dana Tănase one of the leading voices of the meat industry, a professional who understands the sector in depth and represents it with clarity and consistency.

“Procedure and documentation will always get you out of trouble. In this industry, rigor is sometimes the only real support you have.” — Dana Tănase
