The project took place from March 15, 2023, to November 28, 2023, funded by FEPAM funds through the Operational Program for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs (POPAM) 2014-2020, based on funding contract number 812 dated March 15, 2023. The project's purpose was to promote fish consumption among the population in the Central region, specifically in the counties of Brașov, Covasna, and Mureș. The project consisted of two components:
Fish is an important source of nutrients, and regular consumption contributes to improving health and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The Association Delta din Carpați – Doripesco implemented the project "Promotion of aquaculture through information campaigns and the organization of a festival with a fishing theme" from March 15, 2023, to November 28, 2023, to raise awareness of the importance of fish consumption in the Central region, including Brașov, Covasna, and Mureș counties.
The project's objective was to conserve local identity and promote the region's potential by revitalizing and valorizing local traditions and the fishing sector in the Central region, involving aquaculture communities and other traders.
The project aimed to promote fish consumption and awareness of its health benefits through regular consumption. Simultaneously, the Carpathian Delta Fishermen's Festival was organized, ultimately aiming to promote and increase fish consumption.
The festival, held from August 18 to 20, 2023, at Lacul Noua, attracted approximately 10,000 attendees, including residents of Brașov and visitors from neighboring counties over the three days.
The event was promoted through radio and TV campaigns, including a 30-second radio spot promoting the festival and encouraging fish and fish product consumption. Additionally, a 30-second video spot was created to not only promote the festival but also encourage adopting a healthy lifestyle. From June 2023, an online promotion campaign utilized three high-impact Social Media channels: Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram, surpassing the initial target with over 70,000 views.
The audience included residents of Brașov and beyond, who came to Lacul Noua specifically for the Carpathian Delta event to enjoy fish consumption and performances. Participants ranged from teenagers to young families and individuals beyond middle age, all enjoying three days of entertainment with artists such as Fly Project, Damian & Brothers, Atomic & Mihaela Grindean, Efthymos & Dionysos Choir, J Meister Brass Band, Ardelenii, and many more.
The festival had a significant impact on the target population. On the one hand, it successfully promoted and increased fish consumption among the target audience. Messages regarding the nutritional qualities of fish and the connection between fish consumption and a healthy lifestyle resonated deeply, especially among young families.
On the other hand, the three days of the festival brought an explosion of energy, joy, and good vibes to all who participated in the Carpathian Delta Fishermen's Festival.
Regarding the consumption of offered specialties, fish rolls (mititei) remained at the top of sales, closely followed by grilled carp, trout, and carp, as well as newly introduced items like the Fish Burger and Fish Kebab. In terms of products, the top sales were dominated by carp roe salads, trout cream with butter, and fish and mushroom stew.
The large number of participants, numerous views on Social Media channels, and the success of fish products brought by traders all combined to demonstrate that the results achieved after completing the project "Promotion of aquaculture through information campaigns and the organization of a festival with a fishing theme" are remarkable, with the objectives successfully met.
