As a result of the efforts of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), the final report of the audit mission conducted by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) in Romania, both online and on-site, concluded that the Romanian meat inspection system is organized to provide final control, supervision, and enforcement of legislation.
ANSVSA continued its efforts to finalize the reinstatement of equivalence between the meat inspection system in Romania and the one in the United States, promptly responding to all requests from FSIS and the United States Department of Agriculture - Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) regarding additional animal health requirements necessary for the export of dry-cured sausages from Romania to the United States of America.
On July 27, 2022, a technical meeting was held at the ANSVSA headquarters to discuss the requirements submitted by APHIS for the export of dry-cured sausages from Romania to the US.
Through the Embassy of Romania in the US and the Embassy of the US in Romania, a letter was sent to FSIS on May 2, 2023, regarding the re-establishment of equivalence between the pork meat inspection system and pork meat products in Romania and the US, for the purpose of exporting meat products from Romania to the US.
Therefore, Romania is eligible (taking into account APHIS animal health conditions) to export dry-cured sausages and pork meat preserves.
ANSVSA is required to submit the list of certified units for export to the US to FSIS, which will be posted on the FSIS website. Additionally, ANSVSA will submit the label and export certificate models for approval to FSIS, prior to the start of exports, in accordance with USDA-FSIS and APHIS requirements.
In its efforts to restore equivalence, ANSVSA has been supported by the US Embassy in Romania and the Embassy of Romania in the US.
