Romania – One of the EU’s Largest Poultry Producers

Romania is among the largest poultry meat producers in the European Union, with an annual output of approximately 1.4 million tons in 2024, according to Eurostat. The average per capita consumption stands at 28 kg/year, making poultry the main protein source for the population.

Commercial poultry farms account for over 85% of production, with recent investments focusing on the modernization of housing facilities, process automation, and reducing the carbon footprint. The average price of poultry meat was 14 RON/kg in 2024, remaining relatively stable compared to other segments.

Market trends point to growing demand for processed poultry meat and value-added products, including “ready-to-cook” options. At the same time, European standards on animal welfare and food safety are becoming key factors for competitiveness.

For 2025, domestic production is expected to grow moderately by 2–3%, driven by internal demand and increasing exports to non-EU markets.
