Coen van Wagenberg de la Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR) a incalzit carne de porc impregnata cu mirosul specific de vier, captand gazele acestuia si separandu-le. Astfel a devenit posibil sa fie identificat mirosul specific printr-o aplicatie computerizata. Coen van Wagenberg crede ca detectorul pentru mirosul specific de vier ar putea fi similar cu detectoarele de droguri instalate in aeroporturi.
