7 out of 10 Romanians go to the mall several times a week, according to the most recent study conducted by Reveal Marketing Research for Brand Management, the market leader in indoor advertising and the first company in the field whose services have nationwide coverage.
More Women
Among them, 3 are women and 4 are men. While men visit the mall more frequently, women spend more time per visit. When it comes to shopping habits, men spend 10% more than women (302 lei vs 275 lei).
26% of those who stated that they go to the mall visit between once and three times a month, and only 4% go less than once every three months.
73% of men are present at the mall several times a week, 23% go between once and three times a month, and 4% go less than once every three months. On the other hand, women frequently visit shopping centers at a rate of 67%, make 1-3 visits per month at a rate of 29%, and only 4% stated that they go to the mall less than once per season.
Romanians spend over 2 hours on a mall visit
The average time Romanians spend on a mall visit is just over 2 hours (130 minutes), with Generation Z (14-25 years old) standing out in this case, spending over 150 minutes in a single shopping session. At the opposite end are Generation X (43-58 years old), with only 116 minutes.
Most often, Romanians go to shopping malls for shopping (55%), followed by socializing over coffee (29%), having a meal in the food court area (29%), visiting a hypermarket (18%), going to the cinema (4%), and paying utilities & sports (2%).
Those who go shopping mostly buy women's clothing (18%) or men's clothing (12%), as well as cosmetics or perfumes (10%).
Women are the ones who come to the mall for shopping (61%), while men, although they spend more per session, plan their visits for utilitarian purposes and only 48% for shopping.
The average amount spent is 300 lei
The average amount spent by Romanians on a mall visit is nearly 300 lei. The biggest spenders are in the 36-45 age group (Millennials), with almost 370 lei, closely followed by Generation X, who spend around 330 lei on a mall visit. The least spent in a shopping session is by Generation Z - only 200 lei.
It is also interesting to note the trend of consumers who, although they mainly make purchases from online stores, still visit showroom-type shops in malls to test products before actually buying them. Among them, Generation Z stands out (46%).
The sample included 826 respondents aged 14-60, with predominantly medium and higher education and various incomes, located in Bucharest, Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, and Iasi.
