The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) announces the strengthening of collaboration with the Romanian Customs Authority (AVR) to streamline the verification of imports of food products, with a focus on those for which Romania requests licensing for imports (subject to licensing according to Emergency Ordinance 126/2023).
During a meeting held today, President Alexandru Bociu and Vice President Dănuț Păle discussed the new strategy for implementing recent legislative provisions with AVR President Ion Cupă.
"The collaboration between customs authorities and those related to food safety is a good practice found in most European states. We hope that this partnership will bring added quality to the Romanian market," said ANSVSA President Alexandru Bociu.
ANSVSA will benefit from an increased flow of information from AVR regarding the imports of food products, especially those for which Romania requests licensing according to Emergency Ordinance 126/2023.
In the context of adding products such as wheat or rye flour and sugar from Ukrainian origin to the import licensing list, ANSVSA will continue to ensure that products introduced to the market comply with quality and food safety standards.
"The importance of timely information is crucial, considering that food products have a short shelf life," emphasized ANSVSA President Alexandru Bociu.
In this regard, ANSVSA and AVR have agreed to extend collaboration at the institutional level by signing a memorandum with clear provisions to ensure a constant real-time flow of information.
"We want this collaboration to protect the Romanian market from low-quality products," added AVR President Ion Cupă.
ANSVSA will continue to collaborate with other responsible institutions to identify new measures aimed at streamlining import verification actions.
