The Secretary of State, Aurel Simion, participated in Rome in the 51st meeting of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS51) within the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

During this event, Secretary of State Aurel Simion was accompanied by Amelia Rus, the Director-General of the General Directorate of Policies in the Food Industry and Trade.

The theme of this year's event was "Making a Difference in Food Security and Nutrition," where discussions revolved around changing the concept and implementing food security and nutrition on a global level.

On the ministerial level, particularly important issues were addressed regarding the international perspective on food security, with a focus on strengthening the global political response to the food crisis based on the state of global food security and nutrition in 2023. Topics included the volatility of prices and social protection, the promotion of gender equality, and the situation of women in agriculture.

Global interconnections related to food security and nutrition concerning the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals were also analyzed. Solutions were discussed to address structural deficiencies in agricultural and food systems to make progress in reducing hunger and malnutrition, conserving ecosystems, and eradicating rural poverty, which is most severely experienced by small farmers and rural workers, especially women.

Of all the causes of hunger and malnutrition, war, violence, and terrorism are the most serious and avoidable.

Respecting the United Nations Charter, international humanitarian law, and resolutions adopted by the United Nations are fundamental and essential pillars of the human right to adequate food.
