Romania has become, over the past decade, an important player in the European premium beef market, particularly through the development of farms specialized in the Angus breed. According to data from the Aberdeen Angus Association, the herd exceeded 120,000 head in 2024, more than 60% of which are raised in commercial farms with a clear export objective.

The main export markets are Germany, Italy, and Austria, where demand for high-quality beef remains strong. The export price for premium carcasses ranges between €5.5 and €7/kg, compared to €3–3.5/kg for regular beef. This difference highlights the huge potential for farmers who manage to meet the quality and traceability standards required by external partners.

However, the sector faces major challenges: high feed costs, a shortage of specialized labor, and limited access to financing lines for expansion. Experts estimate that, through better cooperation and access to PNS funds, Romania could double Angus beef exports over the next five years, turning this breed into a genuine national export brand.
