Carrefour Romania achieved a non-financial performance of 105% in 2022, while the level of accomplishment of the goals assumed at the Group level is 109%.

Support for local producers, environmental care, reduction of food waste, and the transition to a healthy diet are the main pillars that supported the growth of the non-financial index in 2022.

The non-financial impact was measured in relation to the responsibility objectives set through the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and Food Transition Index, a comprehensive reporting framework introduced globally by the Carrefour Group in 2018.

It is calculated based on over 600 performance indicators grouped into four main areas:

  • Products (sustainable agriculture, raw materials, reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging, animal welfare, etc.),
  • Stores (reducing CO2 emissions, reducing food waste, recycling waste from stores, etc.),
  • Customers (customer perception of food transition), and
  • Employees (access to training programs, gender equality, inclusion programs for people with disabilities, etc.).

Carrefour remains faithful to its mission regarding food transition and sustainable development and continues to work in relevant ways locally to be close to customers, partners, and the community, emphasizing efforts for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Meanwhile, the objectives that Carrefour assumes at the group level are ambitious:

  • Reduce packaging quantity by 20,000 tons vs. 2017;
  • Achieve a level of 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging by 2025;
  • Reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2025 and by 70% by 2040 compared to 2019.
