In the homes of Romanians and Bulgarians, sweets are an essential element of the holidays, as emphasized in Colliers' latest report "Festive Season in CEE," which involved respondents from Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia (CEE-6).

Specifically, in Romania, sweet gifts are purchased by 45% of respondents, while among Bulgarians, the proportion is 47%, significantly higher than the CEE-6 region's average, where 27% of those surveyed choose to give holiday sweets.

On the opposite end are the Czech Republic (3%) and Slovakia (13%), where sweets are not as commonly bought and given. The same survey shows that traditional holiday symbols for Romanians are cozonac (sweet bread) and "Pelincile Domnului" pies.

The Christmas period is characterized by numerous traditions and culinary specialties. Throughout the European Union, each country takes pride in its unique gastronomic traditions, with a special emphasis on holiday sweets.

Colliers' data indicates that Romania is among the EU countries with a strong inclination for sweets, especially chocolate and pure sugar, the latter being an indicator that many sweets are baked at home.

The Colliers survey "Festive Season in CEE-6" also shows that in Romania, more than half of those surveyed buy gifts at the last minute, while in most European countries, respondents start buying gifts one or two months before.

Buyers in the CEE-6 countries have stated that they most often allocate an amount ranging from 26 to 50 euros for a gift given to a person.
