EFSA Celebrates World Food Safety Day: “Food Safety – Science in Action”
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has joined the global community in celebrating World Food Safety Day, a moment to reflect on our shared responsibility to ensure that food remains safe at every stage of the supply chain.
2025 Theme: “Food Safety – Science in Action”
This year’s theme emphasizes the critical role of science in protecting consumers and building trust in the food we eat. At EFSA, science is the foundation of our mission to safeguard public health. We are committed to applying cutting-edge scientific knowledge to assess risks, provide evidence-based advice, and support the development of effective food safety measures across Europe.
Raising Awareness Through Communication
To mark the occasion, EFSA launched a suite of awareness-raising materials highlighting how science-based approaches help address food safety challenges and prevent foodborne risks. These efforts are part of Safe2EatEU, a joint communication campaign coordinated with EU Member States.
Key communication initiatives include:
International Cooperation and Public Engagement
To commemorate World Food Safety Day, EFSA participated in a series of events and meetings organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), EU Member States, and EU accession countries. Engagements in Italy, Portugal, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia created valuable opportunities to connect with international partners, national authorities, stakeholders, and the public.
These interactions emphasized the importance of evidence-based food safety practices in protecting public health and the benefits of shared knowledge and aligned safety standards across Europe and neighboring regions.
Science in Action — for Safer Food, Everywhere
Through its contributions, EFSA reinforces its commitment to international cooperation, capacity building, and the promotion of a shared food safety culture. These efforts help ensure that the food we consume is safe — turning science into action for the benefit of all EU citizens.
