Retail Trade Volume in Romania Up Slightly in April 2025

In April 2025, Romania’s retail trade turnover volume (excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased compared to the previous month, showing:

  • a 1.7% rise in gross series, and
  • a 0.4% increase in the calendar and seasonally adjusted series, according to official data.

April 2025 vs. April 2024

When compared to April 2024, the retail trade turnover volume in April 2025 showed:

  • a 0.4% increase in gross terms, driven by:
  • a 0.8% increase in non-food product sales
  • a 0.4% increase in fuel sales
  • Food, beverages, and tobacco sales remained unchanged
  • a 3.1% increase in adjusted terms, supported by:
  • Non-food sales: +6.7%
  • Fuel sales: +2.8%
  • Food, beverages, and tobacco: down 0.7%

April 2025 vs. March 2025

Compared to the previous month, April 2025 saw the following trends:

  • Gross series: up 1.7%
  • Fuel sales: +6.1%
  • Food, beverages, tobacco: +3.5%
  • Non-food products: -1.2%
  • Seasonally adjusted series: up 0.4%

January–April 2025 vs. January–April 2024

Over the first four months of 2025, the retail sector recorded:

  • Gross growth of 2.7%, driven by:
  • Non-food sales: +5.8%
  • Fuel sales: +3.1%
  • Food sales: -1.5%
  • Adjusted growth of 3.8%, with:
  • Non-food: +7.2%
  • Fuel: +1.4%
  • Food, beverages, tobacco: +0.1%
