Retail Trade Volume Up 12.7% in March 2025 Compared to February (Unadjusted Series) Decline of 0.3% in Seasonally Adjusted Terms

According to the National Institute of Statistics, the volume of retail trade turnover (excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased in March 2025 compared to February 2025 by 12.7% as an unadjusted series, while it decreased by 0.3% when adjusted for working days and seasonality.

March 2025 vs. March 2024

Compared to March 2024, retail trade turnover rose by 4.9% (unadjusted) and by 3.4% in seasonally and working-day adjusted terms.

Q1 2025 vs. Q1 2024

In the period January 1 – March 31, 2025, retail trade turnover (excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased compared to the same period of 2024 by:

  • +3.5% as an unadjusted series
  • +4.0% as a series adjusted for working days and seasonality

March 2025 vs. February 2025

Unadjusted data shows a total retail trade turnover growth of 12.7%, driven by:

  • +14.3% in non-food product sales
  • +13.3% in food, beverages, and tobacco
  • +7.2% in fuel sales at specialized stores

Seasonally adjusted data indicates an overall decline of 0.3%, reflecting:

  • A 2.2% decrease in fuel retail
  • Stable food, beverage, and tobacco sales
  • A 0.8% increase in non-food sales

March 2025 vs. March 2024

Unadjusted year-on-year growth of 4.9% was recorded, resulting from:

  • +11.6% in non-food product sales
  • +0.9% in fuel sales
  • A 1.3% decrease in food, beverages, and tobacco

Adjusted year-on-year growth of 3.4% resulted from:

  • +8.4% in non-food product sales
  • +0.6% in food, beverages, and tobacco
  • A 2.3% decrease in fuel sales
