Premier Marcel Ciolacu requested urgent intervention from the authorities to regulate the situation created on the market by companies producing food products that have reduced the weight of their products while maintaining the same prices as before the reduction, effectively deceiving consumers by actually increasing prices. Here is the Prime Minister's statement made during the Government meeting:

"I will start with a topic that, unfortunately, is increasingly present in European countries and seems to have reached us as well: the fact that some companies have reduced the weight of their products but have kept the prices the same.

I consider this to be a form of deception against consumers! It's actually a 'disguised' and economically unjustified price increase under a very similar packaging.

I urge all regulatory authorities in Romania to intervene urgently! And simultaneously, let's prepare a regulation, following the French model:

Producers should be required to visibly indicate on the packaging that they have reduced the weight if the price of the product remains unchanged. And, obviously, there should be severe penalties for not complying with this obligation."
