Mega Image and Profi Romania Donate €200,000 to Dăruiește Viață Foundation to Support Pediatric Oncology Care
Mega Image and Profi Romania, part of the Ahold Delhaize Group, are sponsoring the Dăruiește Viață Foundation with €200,000 to fund medical staff training and psycho-social support programs for pediatric oncology patients and their parents at the new hospital built within the Marie Curie Children’s Hospital in Bucharest.
The hospital, built by Dăruiește Viață with the help of more than 350,000 individual donors and over 8,000 companies, has been operational since April 2024. Known as the #NoiFacemUnSpital (WeBuildAHospital) initiative, it treats children in oncology, neurosurgery, surgery, intensive care, and includes a surgical unit with five operating rooms.
“We, at Mega Image, were among the first companies to support the Dăruiește Viață initiative from the very beginning. We were truly impressed by the scale of the project and its contribution to improving the Romanian medical system for children battling cancer.
Our mission is to bring goodness to people and the world around us. We are proud to have helped turn this dream into reality.
We understand that this project is not just about building a hospital and equipping it. It’s about much more. That’s why we, Mega Image and Profi, continue to support Dăruiește Viață in creating a high-performing medical ecosystem at the Marie Curie Hospital—one that ensures ongoing training and psycho-social support for patients and their families,” said Mircea Moga, CEO of Mega Image.
“We believe that the true measure of success lies not in what we build for ourselves, but in what we leave behind for others,” stated Călin Costinaș, Deputy General Manager of Profi.
“We are honored to support the evolution of this hospital for children battling cancer, giving them a better chance at life, play, and a brighter future. This is not a one-time gesture—it is part of our long-term commitment to life, hope, dignity, and community.
We believe the impact of this project, to which we are fully committed, will far exceed the value of our sponsorship. We applaud the Dăruiește Viață team for delivering this benchmark achievement in Romanian healthcare.”
The €200,000 sponsorship from the two Ahold Delhaize Group companies will help provide safer, more effective treatments for hundreds of children treated each year at the new Marie Curie facility.
“Dăruiește Viață promised a hospital—and built it. This is the only medical facility in Romania that provides the infrastructure necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to treating children with cancer,” said Carmen Uscatu, co-founder of Dăruiește Viață.
“Now, together, we are building a system where medical excellence and human-centered care form the foundation of every interaction between medical teams and young patients. No child with an oncology diagnosis should have to wait—not for treatment and not for compassion.”
“The #NoiFacemUnSpital initiative began with the patients, driven by the need to protect their dignity and provide modern treatment conditions. In Romania, illness too often comes with humiliation and dehumanization,” said Oana Gheorghiu, co-founder of Dăruiește Viață.
“We created the infrastructure so that several departments of the Marie Curie Hospital can now operate at the highest standards.
We are continuing with the development of the first Pediatric Medical Campus in Romania, and we remain committed to supporting medical staff through training and development. Most importantly, we continue to stand beside patients so they don’t have to face the toughest battle of their lives alone.”
In just one year since its opening, the new hospital has treated over 3,500 children, performed more than 4,000 surgical procedures, and recorded 490 neurosurgery admissions—a 70% increase compared to the previous year.
The oncology department, the only one in Romania capable of offering a truly multidisciplinary approach to pediatric cancer care, has treated 116 children—three times more than in previous years.
