According to a company statement, during the 2023 Community Index edition, Auchan Retail Romania received three distinctions for the investments and efforts allocated in the past year to sustainability projects. These included two Gold distinctions for "Climate Month," a comprehensive awareness and mobilization campaign regarding climate change, and for the Employee Sustainability Program (PSP), which serves as a source of inspiration for customers and communities. Auchan also received a Silver award for the "#NUEPREATARZIU Recycle with Auchan" campaign, a project focused on collecting and recycling aluminum pans.

Out of over 800 CSR projects, programs, and initiatives analyzed annually based on the most important international standards and references in the field of community investments, two projects initiated by Auchan Retail Romania received Gold distinctions, and one project received the Silver recognition.

During the "Climate Month" campaign, held in October of the previous year and awarded the Gold medal, Auchan invited both employees and customers to participate in various awareness and education activities related to consumption behavior. These activities allowed them to actively contribute to reducing carbon footprint and protecting the environment.

To increase awareness of the impact of the food consumed, customers participated in in-store tastings of environmentally friendly own-brand products, organic foods, vegan products, and sustainably produced items. Furthermore, some Auchan hypermarkets hosted information sessions for customers on climate change and the measures that can be taken to mitigate its effects, led by accredited trainers.

As part of the campaign, Auchan employees participated in "climate refresh" training sessions, an accessible and interactive educational tool designed to explain the scientific aspects behind climate change, enhancing their understanding of the impact of human activities on the environment.

In addition, the proceeds from the sale of vegan menus created for World Food Day between October 14 and 16, 2022, during "Climate Month," were donated to the Food Bank NGO.

The second Gold-awarded project, the Employee Sustainability Program (PSP), was launched in 2020 as the first action under the #nuepreatârziu umbrella. It offers all of Auchan Retail Romania's 8,000+ employees the opportunity to get involved in various sustainability and social responsibility initiatives. Designed as a way to mobilize employees to actively engage in projects supporting local communities, the PSP program also aims to inspire Auchan store customers and contribute to social causes, as well as reducing the impact of climate issues, food waste, and excessive plastic use. Last year, over half of Auchan Romania's employees participated in sustainability actions.

In the context of the 2023 Community Index, the "#NUEPREATARZIU Recycle with Auchan" campaign, which focused on the recycling and collection of aluminum pans in partnership with Tefal, received a Silver award. The primary goal of the project was environmental protection and encouraging recycling by providing designated collection points.

Over 3,000 customers joined the campaign by bringing their old or damaged pans to Auchan stores, receiving 50% off vouchers for new products in return. This contributed to proper waste disposal and reduced waste in the environment.

Launched in 2019, the Community Index is the first and only index of programs and projects carried out by companies in Romania for community investment.

According to the organizers, the mission of the ranking is to highlight high-performance CSR projects that place more emphasis on aspects such as stakeholder engagement, project sustainability, and the measurement of medium and long-term impacts.

This is a component of the Romania CSR Index, the most important analysis of corporate sustainability transparency and performance.
