At the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR), a working meeting took place between the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Florin BARBU, and the President of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), Alexandru BOCIU, along with representatives from the swine sector.

The main topic of discussion was the modification of the normative act that establishes the methodology and payment of compensation due to the owners of animals that are slaughtered, killed, or otherwise affected in order to quickly eradicate outbreaks of transmissible animal diseases.

Establishing biosecurity norms regarding African swine fever, as well as supporting the swine sector to receive support within the temporary framework of Ukraine, were other topics addressed during the meeting.

"It is important for all institutions to collaborate to save the swine sector, so that the trade balance is no longer in deficit for pork products. If we have continuity in the food safety projects started, I believe that all the conditions are met for this objective to be achieved.

I believe that we all have a duty to ensure that Romanians have meat and food products manufactured in Romania. It's a pity that a significant production of cereals is exported when we have the opportunity to integrate raw materials into other sectors and develop the livestock sector, which actually means added value," said Minister BARBU.

Regarding the procedure for establishing reference prices for swine affected by African swine fever, the participants agreed to use the data provided by ICEADR (Institute of Research for Agriculture and Rural Development Economics), which will communicate the reference prices for young pigs at 25 kilograms and fat pigs at 100 kilograms to ANSVSA and will post them on its own website.
