On the occasion of Romania's National Day, Tazz published the Romanian Cravings study, a comprehensive analysis that opens up the universe of Romanian cravings and explores the territory of cravings based on the season.
From constant cravings that come with festive moments to the emotions generated by cravings, the study tracked all the ways in which cravings influence the lifestyle of Romanians.
What cravings mean for Romanians:
For Romanians, food is an important social activity, and food cravings are frequent and influence personal budgets.
Romanians associate cravings with positive emotions: over half of the study participants believe that cravings occur in happy life situations and are an occasional indulgence.
What did Romanians crave on December 1st?
December 1st brought a craving for traditional Romanian dishes for 84% of the study participants. Bean dishes were the biggest craving on National Day, for 24% of Romanians. Stuffed cabbage rolls followed with 15%, followed by the traditional grilled minced meat rolls craved by 12% of study participants.
According to the study, among the cravings of Romanians on December 1st, there are also other dishes from Romanian cuisine, from polenta, soups, and "răcitură" (aspic) to pork rinds, head cheese, or stews.
But what did Romanians order on December 1st?
Even in the most traditional contexts, Romanians are open to ordering food directly to their doorstep. Data extracted from the study shows that December 1st and New Year's Eve are the winter holidays with the highest food delivery orders.
According to data from the Tazz app, among the most ordered dishes on December 1, 2022, in Bucharest, Cluj, Brasov, Iasi, and Timisoara were grilled minced meat rolls with bread and mustard, beef salad, pork stew, and french fries.

In the supermarket category, the most ordered products in Bucharest, Cluj, Brasov, and Iasi were bananas, while in Timisoara, water ranked first. In Iasi, the top in this category was completed by mineral water and mango.
The Romanian Cravings study was developed by Tazz in collaboration with Cult Research based on a questionnaire completed by a sample of 406 people aged between 18 and 50, from large urban areas, mapping the universe of Romanian cravings.
