Romania’s Ministry of Agriculture Supports Fishermen through Infrastructure Investments in Midia Port

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) actively supports the activities of fishermen in the Black Sea region by financing the modernization and expansion of the fishing infrastructure in Midia Port, located in Constanța County. The total financial allocation managed by the Directorate-General for Fisheries – Managing Authority for the Operational Programme for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs (DGP AM POPAM) for this call amounts to €9,282,910.

Through the development of infrastructure in this multifunctional port, fishing operations will be significantly improved. The upgraded facilities will allow for more efficient unloading and preparation of marine and inland water catches for market placement, ensuring high product quality, better control over fishing activities, and enhanced data collection — all contributing to the sustainability of fisheries in the area.

This investment is part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to strengthening fishing port infrastructure and directly addressing the needs of the local fishing communities along the Black Sea coast.

Support under the 2021–2027 Fisheries and Aquaculture Programme

The total financial envelope allocated for Romania’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Programme 2021–2027 amounts to €232,072,724, with EU funding accounting for €162,450,905.

This programme is designed to contribute to:

  • The development of sustainable commercial fishing, both in marine and inland waters;
  • A competitive and sustainable aquaculture sector, ensuring efficient use of available resources;
  • Improved organization of the fisheries market, including strengthening fishermen's organizations and supporting short supply chains;
  • The development of fishing areas, by capitalizing on the opportunities offered by a sustainable blue economy.
