One of Romania's largest retailers, Carrefour, has become a Retail Partner of the Meat.Milk. 2024 conference, which will take place on May 27th and 28th at Hotel Alpin in Poiana Brasov.
On this occasion, Carrefour representatives will deliver a presentation during the general session on the first day of the event. Here's how our partners from Carrefour present their activity:
"We laid the foundations of the Carrefour group with the desire to bring diversified products of superior quality to the market at low prices. We are present in 34 countries, with approximately 10,100 stores and over 471,000 employees.
The first hypermarket was opened on June 15, 1963, in the locality of Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois, a town near Paris, covering over 2,500 square meters, three times larger than any other retailer at that time.
Carrefour hypermarket offers a wide and diverse range of products, both food and non-food, including textiles, household items, automotive, electronics, and appliances.
The visionaries behind this concept are Dennis Defforey, Jacques Defforey, and Marcel Fournier. Both Marcel Fournier and the Defforey brothers had experience in retail; the Defforey brothers worked for the family company, Badin-Defforey, specialized in the sale of food products, while Marcel Fournier had a convenience store. It is said that Marcel Fournier came up with the idea when his wife was dissatisfied that their store only sold food products and lacked clothing or fabrics. The three partners were influenced by the "Retail Pope," Bernardo Trujillo, participating in numerous seminars on the visionary concept of "under one roof" in the USA.
Thirty-nine years later, in 2001, on June 27, Carrefour was the first retailer to introduce the hypermarket concept in Romania, thus laying the foundations of the "under one roof" retail market.
The first Carrefour was opened in the Militari area, specifically on the Bucharest-Pitesti Highway, com.Chiajna, Ilfov County. With 55,000 articles, the hypermarket was inaugurated on June 27, 2001, by the Carrefour team led by the then general manager, Francois Oliver.
Low prices mark Carrefour's positioning since its entry into the Romanian market! More than just a positioning, the idea of the lowest prices is a promise that Carrefour has consistently reaffirmed to this day.
Private Label
Not only low prices define us. We want to respond as well as possible to the changing global and local economic situation, so that our customers continue to benefit from quality and diversity at the lowest prices. To make this possible, in September 2009, we launched our range of products in Romania. The Carrefour Private Label encompasses food and non-food products that meet all the quality standards of the group, resulting from a partnership with local suppliers.
The quality of Private Label products is guaranteed by the fact that they are largely made by manufacturers who have well-known and appreciated brands in their portfolio. This means you get the same quality as renowned brands, but at much lower prices!
Carrefour Quality Chain
As an additional guarantee of the quality offered, we have implemented the "Carrefour Quality Chain" system for pork, carrots, and potatoes. The Quality Chain represents our guarantee that these products comply with the highest quality standards. With its help, we encourage and develop Romanian producers who value the Romanian natural heritage. In 2008, we laid the foundations of the Quality Chain for Pork, in 2010 for carrots, and in 2011 for potatoes.
Also, in our stores, customers can find organic products, dietary products, as well as products specific to other cultures (France, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Asian countries, etc.). All this to meet the needs of our consumers, offering quick access to a diversified range of healthy products.
Carrefour Strategy
Since 2001, Carrefour has made a firm commitment to the Romanian consumer, which still stands and is one of the communication pillars - offering the lowest prices, always.
The brand's evolution has not been random but has come in anticipation of the needs of our consumers. In this sense, initially, the main reasons why consumers visited Carrefour stores were related to low prices, a wide range of products, and promotions.
In addition, Carrefour focuses on its development in terms of modernity and innovation. The stores are remodeled periodically, they have a very well-equipped customer universe (customer reception area) from a technical and accessibility point of view, and efforts are made in-store to create a shopping space that makes the shopping experience as pleasant as possible. Furthermore, all our stores have wireless access for customers.
As further evidence that the brand always tries to anticipate consumer needs, it brings the most innovative products, the most recent example being the introduction of Avatar glasses (Eboda) in stores.
According to the Emotional Branding study from 2014 by 360 Insights, Carrefour maintains its position as a leader in the Emotional Branding Index. Carrefour stores represent true micro-universes where projects are implemented specifically designed to offer consumers a unique, new experience, added value, and to highlight the fact that we have a wide range of products (Asian, French, Romanian, Italian, etc.).
