Danone's most efficient factory in Europe celebrates 25 years of local production. Danone Romania uses 100% Romanian milk from local farmers and ensures dairy products for the local market, as well as for 14 other European countries.

This journey has been defined by constant investments, continuous innovation, and a commitment to product quality, consistently supporting the communities in which it operates. The anniversary highlights the company's significant contribution to Romania's economic and social development, remaining faithful to its mission of bringing health through its products to consumers.

Danone's story in Romania began in 1996 with the acquisition and modernization of the Miorița dairy factory in Bucharest. In 1999, Danone strengthened its presence in the local market by introducing the first yogurts produced in the Bucharest factory - "Natural," "Delicious," and "Natural to drink," the first two brands still present on the local market today.

Over the course of 25 years, Danone Romania has invested significantly in modernizing and expanding the production capacities of the Bucharest factory, transforming it into a European hub for local production, exporting to 14 countries.

Constant investments have turned the Bucharest factory into Danone's most efficient unit in Europe, with an annual yogurt production capacity of 75,000 tons. Daily, the factory produces 1 million yogurts with Romanian milk from local farmers, known under the brands: Activia, Casa Bună, Cremosso, Danone, Danonino, Delicious, and YoPRO.

"In these 25 years, Danone Romania has grown and developed alongside generations of consumers and partners, demonstrating commitment to quality, innovation, and social responsibility. Our portfolio has diversified, but we have remained faithful to the requirements of a healthy and modern lifestyle.

Today we are present in Romania with fresh dairy products, plant-based products under the Alpro brand, but we also offer food products for babies and specialized nutrition under the brands Aptamil, Milupa, and Forticare, providing nutritional solutions adapted to specific needs. We are proud of our achievements so far and will continue to offer products that contribute to the well-being of consumers.

We have ambitious plans both in terms of business and regarding our involvement in the development of the communities in which we operate," said Adrian Pascu, Vice President Sales Danone Central East Europe & General Manager Ukraine.

"The investments that Danone Romania has made over time have played a key role in developing local quality milk production to European standards, for farms and smallholders. Significant investments in the Bucharest factory demonstrate not only dedication to quality production but also responsibility towards food safety, society, and the environment," said Florin Barbu, Minister of Agriculture.

Danone Romania continues to diversify its product portfolio. The company offers consumers a varied selection of creamy yogurts, rich in protein, such as Yopro, ideal for athletes, and plant-based nutritional alternatives under the Alpro brand, to meet the diversified requirements of a modern lifestyle.

Danone also focuses on the digestive health benefits through products in the Activia range, highlighting the brand's promise to continuously improve consumer well-being.

Through the socio-economic program "A chance for your family," initiated in 2012, in partnership with the Heifer Foundation and Polaris, Danone Romania has invested 7 million euros to support local farmers and stimulate entrepreneurship. The milk used is 100% Romanian milk purchased from 220 farmers in Zimnicea and 20 local farms.

In 2023, the company recorded a turnover of 1.099 billion lei, an increase of 17.8% compared to 2022, and a profit of 6%, amounting to 68.4 million lei.

Danone Romania has obtained B Corp certification within the regional group of Central and Eastern Europe, of which Romania is part alongside Bulgaria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Danone Romania thus joins the social movement for sustainability, bringing together over 6,000 companies, in more than 80 countries and 150 industries that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
