According to a company announcement, Danone Romania has completed a 1 million euro investment in the acquisition and installation of photovoltaic panels, which will cover 20% of the electricity consumption of the factory in Bucharest.

On this occasion, the company has commissioned 2,350 photovoltaic panels on the roof and in the backyard of the yogurt factory in the Colentina neighborhood, which will provide a total power of 1,280 KWP and supply 1,473 MWh per year, equivalent to 20% of the total electricity consumed.

On sunny summer days, green energy production covers the factory's electricity consumption entirely during the day.

"At our factory in Bucharest, where over 150 employees work, we produce and distribute 1 million yogurts daily to Romanian consumers, as well as to 13 other European markets. Our commitment to consumers reaches a new level, always with care for the environment.

We are proud to say that the 1 million euro investment in implementing the photovoltaic energy system ensures 100% green energy for the factory's consumption during the summer days and 20% during the winter. This initiative is yet another step forward in meeting sustainability goals," said Bogdan Joița, Director of the Danone Romania Factory.

The last investment in the Bucharest factory was completed at the beginning of 2022 when the company invested 4 million euros in a new packaging line where Danone drinking yogurts are packaged in a new type of plant-based packaging.

This year, Danone Romania joined the social movement for sustainability, which brings together over 6,000 companies in more than 80 countries and 150 industries that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, by obtaining B Corp certification within the Central and Eastern Europe regional group, of which Romania is a part, alongside Bulgaria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

B Corp certification is awarded to companies that meet rigorous standards in five categories: governance, employees, environment, community, and consumers.

Danone acquired the Miorița dairy factory in Bucharest in 1996, and approximately 90 million euros have been invested in its modernization and retechnologization so far. Currently, 1 million yogurts are distributed to Romanian consumers, as well as to 13 other European markets.

Danone Romania processes over 60,000 tons of milk annually, of which approximately 90% is Romanian milk. Last year alone, the company collected fresh milk from 22 large farms and over 220 households.

Danone is present on the Romanian market with fresh dairy products (Danone, Activia, Danonino, Actimel), plant-based products (Alpro), as well as baby food and specialized nutrition products (Aptamil, Milupa, Forticare).

Danone Romania has obtained B Corp certification within the Central and Eastern Europe regional group, of which Romania is a part, alongside Bulgaria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

Danone Romania thus joins the social movement for sustainability, which brings together over 6,000 companies in more than 80 countries and 150 industries that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
