The General Directorate for Fiscal Anti-Fraud (DGAF) is conducting an investigation into the implementation of the provisions of Emergency Ordinance 67/2023 concerning the establishment of a temporary measure to combat excessive price increases for certain agricultural and food products. This investigation also involves collaboration with the Competition Council to monitor price developments in this sector.

In this context, tax inspectors have identified a major retailer in the wholesale and retail trade sector that is not complying with the maximum markup rate of 20%. There have been instances where the markup exceeded 42%.

Among the products subject to this markup are eggs, milk, and bread.

The checks were carried out for products purchased between August 1 and August 29, 2023, as well as from September 12, 2023. The business operator has been fined 1,000,000 lei for the violations.
