Global Amino Acid Market Maintains Relative Stability Amid Tariff and Regional Shifts

The global amino acid market is currently experiencing a period of relative balance, despite significant changes in import tariffs and shifting regional dynamics, according to AllAboutFeed.

Notably, the lysine and DL-methionine segments remain stable, reflecting the market’s effective adaptation to new trade and logistical conditions.

In China, FOB prices for lysine have reached low levels, prompting producers to attempt price increases. However, the market remains steady, with little interest in long-term contracts. In the United States, prices have risen due to higher import tariffs, while in Europe, prices have slightly declined, supported by a stronger euro.

As for DL-methionine, a major manufacturer has announced a planned shutdown of a European production facility for 8–10 weeks during May to July 2025. Despite this, the market remains calm and relatively stable.

Regarding threonine, FOB prices in China have started to rise after a period of decline, triggering purchasing activity for the second—and even third—quarter. With demand increasing, discussions are underway about converting valine fermentation capacity back to threonine production.

For tryptophan, FOB prices in China have recently weakened, with a slight price drop also observed in Europe due to a favorable EUR-USD exchange rate. The market remains stable and quiet.

Valine FOB prices in China have fallen to very low levels. In contrast, prices in the U.S. are steady or slightly firmer due to import tariffs. In Europe, prices remain firm, with a wide range observed, as an ongoing anti-dumping investigation continues to influence market conditions.

Overall, the amino acid market is adjusting to new trade realities while maintaining relative stability in key segments, despite ongoing challenges related to import tariffs and regional fluctuations.
