The details about the World Food Forum (WFF) 2024, including this year's theme: "Good Food for All, for Today and Tomorrow" were revealed at an event at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), as stated in a press release from the institution.
In 2024, the year-long activities of the WFF will culminate in a flagship event to be held from October 14th to 18th. This will include sessions dedicated to global action for youth, science and innovation, and hand-in-hand investments.
Additionally, WFF 2024 will highlight the Mid-term Forum of the UN Decade of Family Farming, intertwined in spaces led by youth, technical and policy aspects, to celebrate family farming as the backbone of diverse, innovative, and dynamic agri-food systems.
The flagship event will also coincide with the annual celebration of World Food Day on October 16th, which this year will be under the theme "The Right to Food", with "food" representing diversity, nutrition, accessibility, and safety, factors that are essential in making a healthy diet accessible to all.
World Food Day is the FAO's anniversary and one of the most celebrated days on the UN calendar, with a call to action in up to 50 languages in 150 countries worldwide. 2024 marks the countdown to the FAO's 80th anniversary in 2025.
"All events and forums will be fully integrated, turning the week into a truly dynamic and global platform to transform the future of our food systems," said Máximo Torero, FAO's Chief Economist and President of the FAO Youth Committee, speaking at the event attended by FAO members, directors, relevant youth, and youth supporters from other organizations.
"This will allow us to leverage the power of intergenerational collaboration, partnerships, and creativity in policies, science, innovation, education, and cultural investments," Torero added.
The event was also attended by FAO Deputy Director-General Maurizio Martina and Beth Crawford, Deputy Director-General and Chief Scientist.
Launched in 2021, the World Food Forum (WFF) is a global network of independent partners, led by youth, facilitated by FAO. It aims to trigger a global movement empowering young people everywhere to actively shape food systems to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Forum will promote bold and actionable solutions to catalyze the transformation of our food systems, in light of current challenges and crises.
In particular, through global action by youth, science and innovation, and investments, this flagship event of the WFF creates new paths for action and multi-sectoral partnerships for agricultural impact at local, regional, and global levels to achieve a more sustainable, resilient, inclusive, and food secure future for all.
