The Government of Romania has adopted the necessary normative acts to continue support schemes aimed at the agricultural sector, targeting vegetable cultivation in protected spaces, livestock farming, and irrigation systems. The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna, who stated that the measures are intended to ensure the continuity of payments to farmers in an economic and climatic context that is challenging for Romanian agriculture.
For the vegetable sector, an amount of 275 million lei has been allocated, with funds to be directed toward vegetable growers operating in protected spaces, namely greenhouses and solariums. The support scheme aims to maintain production capacities and support farmers affected by rising production costs, particularly those related to energy, agricultural inputs, and labor.
In the livestock sector, the Government has approved financial support of 137 million lei for breeding activities and the management of genealogical registers. According to the authorities, improving genetic performance is one of the key factors for increasing the economic efficiency and competitiveness of Romanian farms.
The package of measures also includes the extension until May 2026 of the scheme for reimbursing electricity costs used for irrigation. The state will cover up to 50% of the electricity costs associated with irrigation, with the measure maintained in the context of pressures generated by drought and high energy costs.
Authorities have specified that invoices submitted with delays will also be reimbursed, within the limits of the approved budgets, in order to avoid financial bottlenecks at the level of farms and irrigation organizations.
