The weight of animals destined for slaughter for consumption increased in 2023 compared to 2022 for poultry, while it decreased for cattle, pigs, and sheep and goats.

In 2023, compared to the previous year, milk and wool production increased, while egg production decreased.

The following changes were observed in 2023 compared to 2022:

  • The weight of animals and birds destined for slaughter for consumption increased by 3.4% for poultry and decreased by 4.2% for cattle, 3.7% for pigs, and 3.6% for sheep and goats.
  • The total milk production was 0.7% higher.
  • Wool production increased by 5.9%.
  • Egg production decreased by 2.3%.

The production of cow's milk (including for calf consumption) in 2023 was 38,803 thousand hectoliters, 206 thousand hectoliters (-0.5%) below the previous year's level.

Increases were recorded in the following development regions:

  • West (+12.4%)
  • North-West (+9.0%)
  • South-East (+0.7%)

Decreases were observed in the other development regions:

  • Bucharest-Ilfov (-15.8%)
  • Center (-7.0%)
  • North-East (-6.4%)
  • South-West Oltenia (-3.0%)
  • South-Muntenia (-1.3%)
