The European dairy market is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by changing consumer behavior and increasing regulatory pressure on quality and sustainability. In this context, the premium dairy segment — artisanal, organic, or functional products — has become the main growth engine of the industry.
According to the International Dairy Federation (IDF, 2024), premium dairy sales in Central and Eastern Europe have grown by over 25% in the past two years, outpacing the overall market. The main drivers are consumers’ preference for natural products with simple ingredients, sourced locally, and a rising interest in healthy nutrition.
Through the From Farm to Fork 2030 strategy, the European Commission encourages processors to invest in quality, sustainable packaging, and transparent communication of product origin. These elements are essential for building loyalty among younger consumers, who associate premium brands with responsibility and authenticity.
According to the OECD, premium dairy products deliver profit margins 30–40% higher than standard ones, while investments in certifications (organic, PDO, PGI) and traceability can be recovered in the short term due to growing demand.
Premium dairy is no longer just a trend — it is a survival strategy in a sophisticated European market. Romania can compete through differentiation, not price. And the key to differentiation is quality — stated simply, and proven by taste.
