Olympus, one of Romania's largest dairy producers, is investing over 40 million euros in the construction of a logistics center in Hălchiu, in Brașov County. The new hub is part of the development strategy of the Hellenic Dairies Group in Romania and the region.
The logistics center is currently under construction and is scheduled to be phased into operation starting in January 2024. By the end of next year, it will be fully functional and integrated with the company's dairy factory in the immediate vicinity.
The Brașov hub is designed to streamline storage and logistics processes while reducing energy consumption to minimize its environmental impact. It will serve the local market as well as all countries where Olympus dairy products made in Romania are exported, including Germany, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, and Serbia.
With a built area of over 13,500 square meters, the new center is a complex logistics project that will include a high-bay warehouse covering approximately 6,000 square meters, fully automated and temperature-controlled between +2 and +4 degrees Celsius. Once the investment is completed, it will be one of the largest high-bay refrigerated warehouses in Romania, with a capacity of over 32,000 pallets.
"The new logistics center in Brașov, equipped with state-of-the-art technological solutions, is further evidence of our commitment to Romania and its importance in our strategic plans. At the same time, launching this investment aligns with our sustainability strategy, focusing on reducing carbon footprint, creating environmentally friendly packaging, and recycling. Olympus will continue to emphasize quality, innovation, and sustainability," said Adrian Cornea, Plant Manager of the Brașov Milk Factory.
High-bay warehouses allow for the storage of large volumes in a minimal ground space, on shelves over 12 meters high, using automated cranes. This type of logistics solution has several advantages, including excellent space optimization, quick and safe access to products, 24/7 availability, reduced distances for delivering or transporting goods, and lower energy consumption.
The Milk Factory in Hălchiu, Brașov County, was inaugurated in 2011 as a result of a Greenfield investment of over 55 million euros. Over the past 12 years, total investments have exceeded 140 million euros, primarily directed towards state-of-the-art equipment for milk collection and processing, as well as advanced technologies for packaging finished products.
The Hălchiu production unit is the most technologically advanced dairy factory in Romania and is also a leader in collecting milk from Romanian farmers. The local producer of the Olympus brand is the Brașov Milk Factory.
