Eurostat and FAO confirm a steady increase in demand for low-fat meat products, especially in large cities. In 2024, this segment grew by approximately +6% in the EU, driven by interest in balanced diets and clear nutritional labeling.

In Romania, data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS) show that sales of skinless poultry meat, lean pork, and portioned products with reduced fat percentages are growing by +3–4% annually. Urban consumers are influenced by accessibility, visible nutritional information, and price. In the processed segment, cuts with under 10% fat are particularly preferred by people aged between 25 and 45.

Eurobarometer 2024 confirms that 57% of Europeans read the fat percentage before purchase, and 48% state that they prefer low-fat products if the price difference compared to standard products is small. Modern retail is visibly expanding this category due to fast turnover and steady demand.

In 2025, the low-fat segment will be one of the most dynamic in the meat industry. Processors that can standardize fat content, maintain batch consistency, and communicate nutritional information clearly will have competitive advantages in their relationship with retailers and urban consumers.
