Ministry of Agriculture Launches Public Consultation on New Funding Guide for Fishing Infrastructure

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, through the Managing Authority for the Aquaculture and Fisheries Program, has launched a public consultation on the Guide for Action 1.1.2 – Landing Points and Fishermen’s Shelters. This initiative aims to support the work of Romanian fishermen and encourage the nationwide trade of local fish products.

The total amount allocated under the Aquaculture and Fisheries Program (AFP) for this action is €6,962,180.

Funding is available to owners or administrators of fishing infrastructure or locations where eligible investments can be made, including:

  • Construction, modernization, and equipping of landing points to enhance economic and environmental sustainability, by optimizing resource use and reducing time spent on fishing and harvesting aquatic resources
  • Provision of spaces at landing points for future installation of equipment to improve control and data collection activities
  • Investments in infrastructure to allow for landing of unwanted catches, helping to prevent their discard at sea
  • Establishment, modernization, equipping, and repair of fishermen’s shelters, ensuring protection for fishermen, their vessels, and fishing gear
  • Installation of facilities for receiving lost fishing gear and collected aquatic waste

Eligible Applicants

For fishermen’s shelters:

  • Fishermen’s associations
  • Producer organizations, associations of producer organizations, or interbranch organizations recognized by the competent authority under EU Regulation 1379/2013
  • Small, medium, and micro enterprises
  • Fishing cooperatives
  • Authorized natural persons, family businesses, and independent enterprises
  • Central and local public authorities

For landing points:

  • Central and local public authorities only

Background and Objectives

The total financial allocation for the 2021–2027 programming period under the Aquaculture and Fisheries Program is €232,072,724, of which €162,450,905 is contributed by the European Union.

The implementation of this program focuses on:

  • Developing sustainable commercial fishing in both marine and inland waters
  • Promoting sustainable and competitive aquaculture that efficiently uses available resources
  • Organizing the fisheries market, strengthening fishermen’s organizations and supporting short food supply chains
  • Supporting the development of fishing communities, harnessing opportunities offered by the sustainable blue economy
