Romanian Delegation Participates in Key AgriFish Council Meeting in Luxembourg
Violeta Mușat, State Secretary within the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, represented Romania at the Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AgriFish) meeting held in Luxembourg. The Romanian delegation also included Dana Rebega, Director General of the General Directorate for Rural Development – Managing Authority for the NRDP.

Focus Areas of the AgriFish Council
✅ Simplifying Rules and Reducing Bureaucracy
The Council reviewed the European Commission’s proposal from May 14, 2025, aimed at simplifying the regulatory framework in agriculture. The key objective is to reduce administrative burdens for farmers and national authorities by streamlining controls and bureaucratic requirements.
✅ Animal Welfare During Transport
The Presidency updated Member States on the progress of the legislative proposal to enhance animal welfare standards during transport—an issue high on the EU’s ethical and agricultural agenda.
✅ Plant Reproductive Material & Sustainable Fisheries
Progress was presented on negotiations surrounding the proposal for the production and marketing of plant reproductive material. The Council also reviewed the Commission’s latest communication on the state of sustainable fisheries in the EU, outlining proposed guidelines for 2026.
✅ European Framework for Forest Monitoring
Ministers reached a general approach on a new regulation establishing a European framework for forest monitoring. The system aims to support high-quality data collection for tracking progress towards the EU’s climate and environmental goals.
