Romania and the Arab Republic of Egypt aim to strengthen their relations in the agricultural and agri-food sector, following an official meeting between the Minister of Agriculture and the Ambassador of Egypt to Bucharest. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the dialogue focused on intensifying trade exchanges and capitalizing on opportunities for Romanian products on the Egyptian market.
The discussions highlighted interest in continuing exports of cereals and livestock, segments in which Romania already maintains a consistent presence. Egypt remains one of the key markets for Romanian agri-food exports, particularly for wheat and corn, in the context of strong regional demand.
In addition to existing trade flows, the parties analyzed the possibility of expanding cooperation into areas such as sustainable agriculture, agricultural research, exchange of expertise, irrigation, and the use of modern technologies. These directions reflect the need to adapt the agricultural sector to current conditions, including pressures related to climate and production efficiency.
Romanian authorities consider that there is potential to increase the presence of agri-food products on the Egyptian market; however, this objective depends on the development of concrete projects and the strengthening of trade relations. In this regard, bilateral cooperation is seen as a tool for diversifying exports and increasing added value in the agricultural sector.
Looking ahead, the Romania–Egypt relationship remains a strategic one for agricultural exports, with a focus on trade stability and the expansion of technical cooperation between the two states.
